AP Literature and Composition
Josephine reads regularly, but most of the reading she does in her free time is reading articles, not novels. Josephine enjoys gaining new information and perspectives though reading, but can have a hard time focusing on one topic for long periods of time. This can result in her not finishing books she starts which is why she now reads articles and stories more often than novels. Over the summer, Josephine read the AP Lit books, The Book Thief and Obasan, as well as Johnathan Livingston Seagull. Currently, she is reading a series of graphic novels called Alias: Jessica Jones because after watching the Jessica Jones Netflix series, she wanted to explore the character more. Some of Josephine's favorite writers are Maya Angelou and Neil Gaiman. Last year she read around 5 books. There's are probably one and a half to two bookshelves worth of books in her house. Josephine is a reader who wants to expand her empathy through what she reads. In the past few years, most of Josephine's growth as a reader has been in reading articles more regularly. She started keeping up with the news, which has made reading a part of the routine, but she still wants to make more progress in reading longer works.
Josephine is a writer, she learned to write in elementary school and throughout elementary and middle school she experimented with journaling and creative writing outside of school to further that learning. People write for many reasons: to express their feelings or opinions, to work out and better understand their thoughts, to teach others, to escape to another world, or simply to have fun. Josephine likes to write without structure, by just starting to write about whatever she is trying to make sense of in her life, once she gets a feel for what she is trying to express, she will start to structure it, whether that be in a fictional story, a memoir, or anything else. In order to write well you need to have an understanding of grammar and flow. As a result of her method of writing, it is helpful to get feedback on when her writing gets off topic. In the past few years of high school, she hasn't written much outside of schoolwork, but now she is writing for college applications and for exchange year applications. She usually is satisfied with her writing because she puts a good amount of work into it.
